The difference between editing and proofreading
The two terms are often mixed up but they actually identify two different linguistic services required from translators. Therefore, they have two different monetary values.
Here is the correct definition of the two services.
- Editing includes the accurate comparison of source and target texts and gives the translation a refined touch in terms of completeness, uniform terminology, style, spelling, grammar and syntax.
- Proofreading involves the meticulous control and linguistic correction of target text in terms of spelling, grammar and typographical standards.
